4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

Spring may have sprung but in Dayton it’s not all warm and snug outside. Your furnace has been running for months trying to keep you and your family comfortable, so now is the time to show your furnace some love. If you hear abnormal noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost certainly need furnace repair work and you should call Stevenson Service Experts immediately.

Before you jump to the conclusion that you need a furnace repair technician, review these tips from Stevenson Service Experts.

  • Make sure your thermostat is switched to “heat.”

It may sound crazy, but we get busy and life happens, so sometimes it’s easy to ignore the simple fixes. Forgetting to move over the thermostat can make you assume you need furnace repair and installation when really you can fix the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Speaking of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. As before, an easy miss, especially considering this switch isn’t one you actually look at regularly. Most units have built-in delays so make sure when you turn on your furnace you give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about calling our furnace repair man.

  • Replace your furnace air filter.

You should swap out your home’s air filters around every three months to help your heating system run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons for declining performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for germs and cause you and your children to become sick. Change your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy. You may also schedule annual maintenance with Stevenson and have a thorough furnace cleaning as part of your check up.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Make sure your circuit breaker (the one that controls your furnace) is in the “off” position and not the middle. If the breaker has been moved to the middle for some reason, move the breaker to “off” and then push it back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs could be expensive, so avoid a future issue altogether with regular maintenance from Stevenson Service Experts. However, if you are ever in need of furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to provide all your heating needs.
