Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Nothing is worse than laying down at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If this happens to you, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Stevenson Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters every 30 days. If you do not, they can become clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Stevenson Service Experts a call at 937-503-7896 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
