Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Nothing is worse than laying down at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Stevenson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you do not, they can become clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Stevenson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 937-503-7896 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
